Preparing Online School Students for Graduation in Virginia
Virginia Connections Academy works closely with families to ensure that students understand graduation requirements in Virginia and have the support they need to fulfill those requirements. Our comprehensive high school curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the classroom—long after graduation.
EARN YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA IN VIRGINIA
Students who attend online school and meet Virginia graduation requirements receive the same diploma as their peers who attend brick-and-mortar public schools in the state.
How Many Credits Do You Need to Graduate High School in Virginia?
Students must successfully earn a minimum of 22 standard units of credits and 5 verified credits to graduate. Be sure to check your school handbook for updates.
The minimum course credits required to graduate are included below.
Although Virginia Connections Academy does not offer grade 12 at this time, students are required to complete course credits that will keep them on track to meet Virginia graduation requirements.
Virginia Connections Academy High School Credit Requirements
- English Language Arts: 4 credits
- Social Studies: 3 credits
- Mathematics: 3 credits
- Science: 3 credits
- Fine Art or Career and Technical Education: 2 credits
- Physical Education: 1 credit
- Health and Physical Education: 2 credits
- Personal Finance: 1 credit
- Other Electives: 4 credits*
Additional statutory requirements for graduation include:
- Virtual Course & First Aid/CPR/AED Training
- Students must complete either an AP, Honors, IB , or Dual Enrollment course, a Work-Based Learning Experience, or earn a CTE Credential.
* Out of those four electives, there are at least two sequential electives.
